Did You Know - The Four Courts
The 'Four' in Four Courts refers to the four types of law practiced in Ireland for which the building was built - Chancery, Exchequer, Kings Bench and Common Pleas. The building was built to in 1776 to the designs of Thomas Cooley, who also built the Royal Exchange
To choose the appropriate course of action for your case you will need to have a good idea of the value of your case. By value, I mean, what is the total amount a particular court can award in the event of you winning your case, which of course, you will. Different courts can award different amounts. The amount that the court can award is known as the “Jurisdiction” of that court.
So that everyone gets a chance to visit a court in their area, the various courts have sessions around the country. This is called “going on Circuit”. This gets confusing when, for example, the High Court goes on Circuit!!!
